Theodore Roosevelt is probably my favorite president of all time. I don't think he was the best, that would probably be either Washington or Lincoln. However, he is right up there. He led the nation in a time of relative peace, even though he served honorably in the Army. He was a young Governor, Vice President, and President. Though conservative, he cared about the environment. (in a true sense, unlike hypocrites like Al Gore) He believed in the free-market, yet didn't allow big business to run amok. While I believe that Winston Churchill was more important in the grand scheme of the 20th century, America needs a President much like T.R. today. Here are a few quotes from T.R. that I enjoy.

I don't know a whole lot about that part of his life. I'm not sure if he thought that the Republicans were too beholden to big business. Kinda like the 'Wall Street Journal Conservatives' of today. The kind that believe; "If it's good for business it's good for America"
I think we need to keep an eye on business and their practices. Not to get in their way, but to make sure they are ethical and moral in their practices. Money can confuse your view of the world, and it happens big time in big business. Much like Carmen's post about chocolate.

Yes Stan, but I think we have far different approaches to regulation. I think we should regulate practices that are harmful to the public. Practices like putting mercury in lightbulbs. Putting mercury in dental fillings. That should be regulated, not regulating profits like you liberals want to do.

So who gets to decide in your world what the right amount of profit is? Oil Companies don't make that much profit, pound for pound. Yes, they make billions of dollars, but they sell a whole lot of oil. The markup on oil is something like 8%. (It may be even less) If you look at the markup on clothing, or any retail item for that matter it's in the 500% ballpark. Why don't you want a windfall profits tax on that?
