Beware "The Story of Stuff"

I had seen the video: "The Story of Stuff" a while ago, and I knew their Defense spending numbers were garbage, but I had no idea that the majority of the numbers used in the video are garbage. This video is being widely shown in classrooms. It's important to be aware of what kids are learning to be able to properly educate them. I had a conversation with Ryan about "the green movement" today. He gets Ranger Rick, and while I like most of the stuff in RR, there is definitely a "green" agenda. I consider myself an environmentalist, but in the true sense. Not some whacked out anti-capitalist sense. Anyway, back to the point of the post. Pay attention to what your kids are learning.

Here's the link that "How the World Works" included on YouTube to a NYT article about "The Story of Stuff."

Typical, indoctrinational cr*p. Young kids might be swayed by this; older ones would laugh at it.

Gonna ck into whether or not my youngest sees this garbage.

Alot depends on the district (and state for that matter). At lil ones elem they say both pledges (Amer & Texas flag) and then have a moment of silence.

The word God is in both pledges btw.

They say a pledge to the TX flag?? Is that to guilt em into never moving out of state? :)

We say the pledge, too. I just told my kids not to say the "under God" part.

Indoctrination?

I'd think you'd leave that up to them. I tell my kids that I pray, that I read the Bible; we go to church (which they enjoy). Never once have I told my children they had to believe. Not once have I forced them to pray (I've made them the offer to lead a prayer durnin fam Bible study tho). 2 outta 3 of them are now Believers.

Their choice, free will.

Pledge To The Texas Flag

"Honor the Texas Flag
I Pledge Allegiance to thee,
Texas, One state under God,
One and Indivisible"

My instinct was to follow that up with "just kidding", but I thought you'd know that I was.

Yeah...I know it was iffy...but c'mon.. it's me. Like I'd ever say that to my kids. Gimme a little more credit than that.

And no...it's not up to them. Say it like it's freakin written.

Technically, Texas IS divisible. It could split into five states. That would scare the crap outta the Dems, 6 or 7 more Republican Senators.

Hmm..guess I missed that one. Sorry.

Don't worry, you didn't write the Texas pledge. I bet it was written by an Aggie.
