Super Bowl

So last year I made a prediction that was right. I wasn't really close as far as the score, but I picked the right team. It was an emotional decision more than a logical one. Well there's no emotion in this one as I really don't care either way about either team. I'd rather see the Cardinals win, and I'll probably root for the Cardinals, but I think it'll be Pittsburgh. My prediction, Stillers 27, Cardinals 20.

The Stellers D looks tough. Can Warner overcome it? I hope so (but not likely).

My prediction: Pitts 21 Ariz 10
couse, since I've watched about 3 ttl minutes a pro football this season, I doubt I'm right.

24-21, Arizona. I should know, I said the Lions would win a game this season.

Other predictions: Springsteen will play Born to Run and Hungry Heart at halftime. (Ok, these are more hopes than predictions.)

And...Puxsutawney Phil will NOT see his shadow when he pops his head out of his burrow on Gobbler's Knob tomorrow morning.

I quickly changed the channel when the "boss" came out. Scr*w that guy!

I'm thinkin you're right on your ground hog prediction.

Linda said...

I thought they sounded really good. Did do Born to Run...love that song. Don't tell me about what a horrible person he is...I've my fingers in my ears.

It was a great game. The pick-6 right before halftime killed Arizona. Everyone thought he was hurt and I kept saying; "He's tired, that's a long way to run for that big a boy" I'm pretty sure he was just tired. I was hoping the Cards would pull it out. Warner had a heck of a game with the exception of the pick and the fumble. But in the end, Pittsburgh was more opportunistic. Great game. Almost as good as last year.

I was rooting for overtime. Oh well. And I happen to think it beat last years superbowl. This one had everything, it was a great game.

And do I have it correct that Linda's prediction was the closest to being true?

Actually, it was that Warner wasn't able to look off his receiver. It was simplicity for that defensive player to look at Warner's eyes to see where he was gonna throw.

I guess he's not a Republican't because he wasn't using red-herrings.

:-)

Dear Nestor and ReckNHavic: What is it with ya'll not being able to spell "Steelers"????

Is it that you don't want to remind the country that our steel industry has been shipped overseas?

And I have a question 4 you, Linda: Perhaps the Lions should rename themselves to a famous car name?

Say, the Bonnivilles???? (LOL! That's more about Utah than Detroit????)

(from a news article)
> Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner — who was sacked and lost the ball at the Steelers' 44 with five seconds left — was wondering why it was so hastily determined he fumbled. He thought it was an incompletion.

I'll tell U Y, Mr. Warner. As you brought your hand backwards to throw, a defender came in and hit the ball as it was going backwards. Certainly you were somehow able to make the ball go forward after that (which in itself was quite impressive), you were already losing the ball before the forward motion of the ball.

RecknHavic said...

It was a fumble.

Great gm!

Nestor said...

I said Stillers because that how people in Pittsburgh SAY it. I know it's Steelers.

Linda said...

If I remember correctly, it almost looked like the defender knocked his arm forward, but it wasn't in a forward motion first.

I agree, Stan. I thought it was more entertaining than last year. Very exciting. And I don't think changing Detroit's team name's gonna help us at this point, but I'm up for anything. Not to mention combining the Big 3 and our football team is sure disaster.

Nestor said...

It wasn't better than last year. I know I'm biased, but the officiating last year was better and there were far fewer mistakes. That doesn't take anything away from this game, but I think people forget how good past games were when they just watched a really good one.

Nestor said...

Stan,

"Actually, it was that Warner wasn't able to look off his receiver. It was simplicity for that defensive player to look at Warner's eyes to see where he was gonna throw."

You can analyze it however you want, but Warner shouldn't have made that throw. It was a bad throw in an otherwise great game. Throw in that Arizona couldn't tackle a Defensive lineman on the field for 100 yards. Harrison has a great story, but come on. Boldin or Fitzgerald couldn't run him down?

Nestor said...

Oh, and the 15 yard penalty that wasn't on Santonio Holmes. He used the ball as a prop and the final kickoff should have been from the 15 instead of the 30. The Steelers won, they played a great game, but the officiating was horrendous and almost always favored Pittsburgh. It would have been interesting to see Arizona start at the 40 instead of the 25.

Linda said...

Sorry, I'm stickin to it. Taking into account the entertainment factor alone, I still say this game was better.

This is what I said last year:

L> Happy for you today, Nestor! I didn't have a favorite, so I was rootin for the Giants for you. Gotta say the first 3 quarters were fairly boring for me, but the end was great. (Too bad we didn't win any squares.) :(

See? I'm not forgettin past games! :)

RecknHavic said...

So we all agree, it was a great gm.
Now, my question is..who won the Puppy Bowl?

Linda said...

There are no losers in the Puppy Bowl. They're puppies. They're not even really playing football. At least not w/ NFL rules.

RecknHavic said...

Could the Lions take em?

Linda said...

Well, they did in the pre-season!

LOL! You certainly have a point there. What if they combined the team with the auto labor unions? I'm certain they would have better luck. :-)

Nestor -
> You can analyze it however you want, but Warner shouldn't have made that throw.

He could've gotten aWAY with it if he looked off his receiver so the defender wouldn't know what he was up to, IMHO.

RecknHavic said...

Actually, it was a bad play call. Better to take advantage of their receivers height's w/ a throw to the back corner of the end zone, imo.

Stan Rosenthal said...

The same thing could've happened (Warner not looking off his receiver and getting intercepted in the end zone.) But you might have a good point here, as if the interceptor ran the same distance, he wouldn't have gotten into the end zone, and the half would've been over.) A possible 7 point difference.

Stan Rosenthal said...

You have another good point there, Reck. The Cards got that dude that supposedly jump above anybody on the field, so presumably he could've jumped above any possible interception, even with the quarterback showing what he was gonna do.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Me (in reference to the Lions) -
> ... Say, the Bonnivilles???? (LOL! That's more about Utah than Detroit????)

I got it. The Detroit Corvettes. Your new motto???? - "It lookeda justa likea UFO." ;-)

Nestor said...

Well for basketball Detroit has the Pistons. Maybe the football team could be named the Hybrids. They're almost a real pro-team, but the gas engine turns off when it's needed the most.

Or maybe the E-85's. They take 60 real football players, and put out 45 fake players on the field.

Linda said...

Hey! Go easy! You're runnin outta salt to throw in that wound!

Nestor said...

OK, I'll try to stop. Just remember my basketball team has been almost as futile for the last 7 or so years.

Nestor said...

One side note, the Steelers won, by a final score of 27-23. My prediction was Steelers 27-20. That's pretty darn close.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Nestor, from my recollection Linda had predicted a 3 or 4 point Steelers win.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Oops, it was @ the top of this thread. Linda predicted a 3 point win. Unfortunately, she predicted the Cards by 3. She was closer to being correct than my wish of overtime for the big game ...
