Books

I am going to be writing a book. I have a few ideas in my head for different books that I want to write in the future, but I want to get some input as to what people would like to read. Perhaps, I'll get an idea that I didn't have before. I am hoping that I can get input from a lot of different sources. Here is the deal. I'm going to write a spiritual book and I am curious to see what would be most helpful to people on their spiritual walk. Now I know not everyone is in the same place as me, but that's OK. I'm going for more mainstream anyway. I'd like to eventually make a living from writing, so I'd like the book (and probably most of the books I'd write) to have a broad audience. Not necessarily all-inclusive, but broad enough that it can be helpful across denominational lines. I'm sure I'll write some books that are more specific to my family of churches in the future, but for now, I'm looking at a broader audience. That's my goal, and any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Nestor

Best of luck on your future self-employment.

Hmm, what to say about this.

I trust that you will use (and pay royalties (and credit)) to the band Spirit in your promotions of your books?

Well, every time I think of a subject to suggest, three more pop into my head. Whatever sub you pick you should definitely include your testimony of changin from someone who was a liberal non-believer into a conservative Believer. Personal testimonies are powerful.

Lol at #6, Reck!

I agree w/ him tho about including (if not basing it on,)your process of change. For me, I find that part of the subject very interesting. And I think it can speak to a broad audience regardless at what stage they are. Believers would like to hear others' personal stories, and nons would like to know why, how and what it's done for you.
Good luck..sounds fun...and daunting...and scary..and fulfilling...and rewarding. :)

Well, about the Knicks losing ways, I hope they'll correct that with LeBron James, Chris Bosh, and Dwayne Wade in 2010. Until then, well hopefully they'll pull off an 8 seed or better in the playoffs next year.

On a more serious note, I've been reading one of the many books in the house that I've started but haven't finished. It's a book about Romans (Romans: The Heart Set Free, by Gordon Ferguson) and the author makes one of the best points about baptism that I've heard.

I'm totally taking his point here. Say I said to you, go to Bank X at a certain time on a certain day and talk to the bank manager to get the check for $100,000 that I left in your name. Would that be 'work' for you to go to the bank and pick it up, or grace that I gave you the check? You see, baptism is a condition of grace, just as showing up at the bank is a condition of receiving the check. You didn't work for the check or earn it. It was given freely, because I think you're a really neat guy! But if you didn't show up at the bank, would you get the check?

BTW, it would take a remarkable amount of faith for you to go to the bank in the first place. You would have to trust that I really did leave you a check for that much. (and that it wasn't made out of rubber)

Not sure what you mean by "condition of grace". Certainly baptism is important and an outward expression of our faith. I guess you could say it's motivated by the Spirit.

Reck,

I want to properly address your question. I'll get to it in the next couple of days. I'm in another 'unplugged' period. Not totally unplugged, just not as much. Besides, I have an idea for my book. Not much, but a start. I'm hoping it will take off. Usually when I begin writing it goes on and on, but with a book that's kind of OK. I don't want it to be more than 200 pages, but I'm thinking more than 100. Anyway, I'll readdress your question in the next few days. I probably didn't do a good enough job of setting my statement up anyway, so I'll need to do some clarification.
