Bumper Stickers

It's been my observation that when someone has 4 or more bumper stickers on their vehicle, there is usually some contradiction going on. On the way home from the park yesterday we saw this, and I just had to post it. It is a Clif Bar pick up truck that runs on BioDiesel. I know this because it proudly says running on BioDiesel all over the truck. It also has a bumper sticker which says 'No Farms No Food.'

Maybe I'm the only one who finds this funny, but running a vehicle on fuel that essentially gets rid of farms and having a bumper sticker that says 'No Farms No Food' is pretty darn humorous. Maybe they only want to take away the farms that fuel their truck. Or, (conspiracy theory here) maybe Clif wants to destroy our regular food supply so that we will have to subsist on nothing but Clif Bars. ;) The only farms left will be used to make their lovely bars. (I'm partial to the Oatmeal Raisin one) Now I understand that they could possibly be running this vehicle simply on waste oil from McDonalds. (Or any other restaurant) However, widespread use of biodiesel would cause further food shortages such as is being seen due to the increase in ethanol usage. It seems like a good idea, until you start having riots in third world countries and you have food and fuel prices skyrocketing here in America.

Oh, BTW. Shout out to Carmen for taking the picture, since I was driving. I can talk on the phone and drive, but taking pictures while driving is just a bad idea.

Anonymous said...

So is texting. I don't recommend it.
Wow, that dude had somethin to say! That was funny. I'm not familiar w/ Clif Bars, nor did I know what biofuel was before I wikipediaed it.

Whoa man, that's WAY out there, man. (that's '60's speak for "My friends ... ". ;-) )

But to get serious about it (LOL!), I guess we should worry about them going *TOO* far and getting the ethenol from hemp instead of corn (as I understand it, hemp has the possibility of being a better crop for ethenol than corn. And you don't eat it (except in brownies)!!!!)

Stan Rosenthal said...

I don't know if this is on topic, but as far as solo bumper stickers I've seen in about the past month, I've seen 1 Hillary sticker, 1 McCain sticker, 1 McCant sticker, 1 Ron Paul sticker, and many Obama stickers.

Nestor said...

Well just because you see lots of Obama stickers doesn't necessarily mean he'll win. There are lots of people who don't like McCain, but who will vote for him because he's better than Obama. (or Hillary) As far as using hemp is concerned, I agree. Hemp is a very good crop and has many uses other than as the main ingredient in Stan's brownies. I'm not for legalizing 'weed', but I am for using hemp as an all purpose crop. From clothes, to rope to many other things. We even use hemp seeds in our smoothies sometimes. (There's no THC)

Anonymous said...

I'm not keen on legalizing pot, either. But I gotta tell ya, if I get cancer...and go thru chemo...and I'm sick and miserable...and someone suggests dope might help me out? I'm gonna burn a big fat one.

Anonymous said...

Hey Nestor, I can't seem to be able to post at Carmen's blog. Might she have a time delay or does she approve em first?

Hey Reck, I'm tryin to shore up this Padre trip...looks now like we're goin Wed 7/16- Monday, so if it works out better for you guys, we could do the fish on Saturday. (Assuming you weren't just nodding and smiling thinking we wouldn't actually hold ya to it!) Well, I am. ;) So if you could let me know if you're still interested, or if you have a preference of days, that would be swell. Of course I haven't checked w/ the place yet, so don't know about availability. Or if you care about what we fish for! Thank youuuuuuu.....
(Bulwinkle style)

Anonymous said...

Name the place and we'll be there; fishin sounds "swell".

Stayed in Austin last nite (long two days) but needed to get some serious work done, got a couple a KBs to do this week as well.

Hey, maybe I'll hafta find me some hemp bristled paint brushes; that'd bring new meanin to "pass me the paint pot".

Anonymous said...

Forgot to ask, did you watch Deadliest Catch tonight? Just saw it, action packed.

Anonymous said...

Tivo'd it...watchin it right now.

Anonymous said...

Appreciate the thumbs up...:) I've been on line like crazy tryin to sort out the trip details. The hotel that we really liked is under some construction, so we've been tryin to decide whether or not it's doable. Even called down there to get the skinny. I don't see another place on the beach that's as nice, so I think we're gonna risk it. It had a nice restaurant, pool, etc. Anyway, I'll let ya know what's up. Seriously tho, if you have an opinion on the fishing, I'll go into that w/ you before I book.

Anonymous said...

I'll leave the fishin options to you; never been out on a boat fishin in the gulf (tho Summer has). Now pier fishin...

Gave the Alaska Experimnet a try, didn't hold my interest.

Nestor said...

Linda,

To post on Carmen's blog you should just have to enter the word verification and click on name/url. I don't think there is anything else to do.

Anonymous said...

Thanks N. They went thru fine tday. :)

Anonymous said...

The Alaska thing didn't do much for me, either. And everytime I try Man vs. Wild, he's doin something gross and I turn it. The other day, he was squeezing the guts out of a catapillar before he turned him into a crispy critter for lunch. Blahhhhhgh....
I won't even try frog legs.

Anonymous said...

Cleaned the crap outta the fridge tday. Looks like new. So I said to the oldest, "Hey T, open the fridge and admire my work". He looks in and goes, "Wow, Mom! I LOVE what you've done with it! And look at THAT!.. and THAT!..and over HERE!!" Told ya he was a ham.

R, as much as I'd like to book the boat for us all, I'd like your opinion on it, as it involves what kind of experience we get and money. So sometime when you've time to talk...

Rained ALL day here tday. Had a fire goin, it was so gloomy.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like you've got a future stand-up on your hands. What he said is really funny. I imagine he's got pretty good delivery as well.

Busy day today. After work went and got a Vizio at Costco for the bedroom (hook up manana). Then grilled some burgers. Ever make em w/ crumbled blue cheese mixed in? Ooooh Yeeeaaahhh!

I guess maybe if you could shoot me some info on the fishin, I really don't have a clue about it).

Dentist in the mornin and then Austin for me. Gonna work in town fri tho, SB dbl header. Got have priorities ya know.

Anonymous said...

Ok, I'm..uh..unique.

S and youngest go w/ me to Costco today and we're pullin into the parkin lot and I say,"Man, look at the size a that dove". Summer looks and says,"Uh.. that's a pigeon". It was.

We're walkin the isles, ya know, ck-in out the free samples and I walk up to a booth, take a taste and say, "Hey honey, you should try this rice melody". S looks at the sign and says, "it's rice medly". And for whatever reason the seven or eight people standin around all look at the same time and everyone laughs....yeah.

Pretty typical day actually.

Nestor said...

It's OK Reck, rice melody sounds nicer.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, he's got the delivery down.

New t.v....:)

Rice melody...lol.
~singin~ "Brown riiiice, white riiiice...any rice is niiiice riiiice..."

(That reminds me the other nite I'm walkin up to the boys room, where they were, singing loudly Monkee's style "Here I come...walkin up the stairs....gonna tuck you in now...if anybody cares....Hey hey, here comes Mommy!" I thought it was a pretty good impromptu.)

Reg fishing...from what I can gather, there are 2 types. Cheap, big boat with lotsa other people, or pricey, smaller boat, more personal experience. I might suggest googling Padre deep sea fishing and see if you have an opinion. I think I know what direction we'll end up going in. It just depends if you wanna go for it, cuz it's a rare thing.

Anonymous said...

The problem w/ the rice melody, is that it doesn't include peas. It does, however, have a lovely crescendo.

Anonymous said...

Yeah Nest, that's what I said :)

Wow, they know Monkey lyrics, impressive. And that's a darn good impromptu!

Vizio LCD 32", great deal.

Watched the Stros tonight, five wins in a row.

Ok, guess I'll give up the pute. My sons gotta Lord Of The Rings game loaded and he's walkin up every few minutes, staring, sighing and then walking off.

I'll google it.

gna.

Anonymous said...

No, they didn't know what the heck I was singin...that was me.

Survivor picks, busy man...just a reminder.
nighty nite.

Anonymous said...

Ooooohhh...you were singin, hence the "where they were". See, I am a bonehead. This explains the good G.W. Bush impersonafidancation.

Still a good impromptu tho.

Sur pick for me..Natalie; S wakin up, she'll pick later. Yes, she takes this seriously.

I'll ck back in after dentist, despite my "busyness".

Anonymous said...

Never pick before your first cup of coffee...smart girl.

After more thought, I think we're gonna go w/ the cheaper, shorter, less serious fishing boat. Check out www.ospreyfishingtrips.com How far of a drive is it for you?

Anonymous said...

Back to dreams for a minute. (Had a doozy of a bad one this morn. that got me thinking.) You know how a dream'll start out fine and ordinary, and then somewhere it turns bad? For ex...you're at a picnic havin a good time, you leave in your car and it breaks down, so you walk home and get jumped in an alley.

Ok, so do you think dreams are like movies in that how they end is pre-determined (sort of "written")? Or does your brain just go scene to scene (second to second) and then decide where it's going? When the picnic dream started, was it meant to go badly? Was the good part of the dream merely the beginning of a bad dream, or did a good dream turn bad half way through? Can a sub-conscious have a plan or is it just reactionary? Can I think of any other ways to word the same question?

Anonymous said...

Actually, I think it's all of the above. The sub-conscious will flash all kinda things into your mind: worries, random happenings, previous experiences, ect. But I don't think it's completely set-up. Ever been dreamn and suddenly it shifts and you hear a sound w/in the dream and you instantly incorporate into the dream? Only to wake-up and hear the phone ringn.
For the most part I think it's random. I've had troubln dreams but then when I'm fully awake I realize it was just a dream.

Anonymous said...

Never made the drive from Bulverde, guessn it's two or three hours.

Anonymous said...

Oh good, that's not too bad. I was afraid it was a lot farther.

It's just frustrating when you're emotionally comfortable in a dream and then it turns ugly. It's like I feel tricked. I was outright yellin this morning.

Ha! Glenn's talking about the credit report dot com add. He said he could put that song on his ipod. lol

Have a good day in Austin!

Anonymous said...

K, I never I thought I'd hear you say "Go Wings"...I like it! Welcome to Hockeytown, eh?

Anonymous said...

Brief rant while I'm thinking about it...

I've had to screen, for my kids, cable news in regards to the presidential race. (My youngest has no clue, but I'm talkin my 9 yr. old.) He knows who's running, he knows how the primaries work, etc., we talk about it. But every time it's on in the background, I hear "black voters did this", "black voters feel this way", "white voters were 53%", etc. I've made sure in raising them, that I don't include race in normal conversations, as it makes no difference in everyday situations. He never hears, "this black guy in line at Costco..." for example. Well, the coverage of the primaries is making me increasingly uncomfortable. I've had to turn off coverage of an election, because I feel like it's giving a bad message.

I'm not talking Nancy Grace, I'm talking Hannity and Colmes. I dunno, I'm just disappointed my boy can't listen to political coverage.

Anonymous said...

Actually, Lost was alittle confusin to me tonite. Yeah, cabin was creepy as well. And what's up w/ Claire hangin w/ her (supposedly) dead dad? next week should be something.

Becomin a BIG Wings fan. That Paul McCartny rocks!

Anonymous said...

Actually, that was Jack's dad, I believe. Which adds to the confusion.

Paul McCartny...lol. That's Darren McCarty! He was big back in the day...got into drugs, got it squared away. Can't believe he's back. D likes him cuz he's a fighter. Bring back the fighting!!!

Anonymous said...

Turn the radio up. Conservative talk radio will have a much better effect on him :)

You know, this world is (unfortunetly ) set up to hammer the good messages we instill in our children.
TV is a problem because it's so accessable. Your kids sound pretty bright, so I wouldn't sweat it too much. Maybe you could turn this into a teachin moment.

Anonymous said...

Jack and Claire are half brother and sister (tho they don't know it).

They fight in hockey? Thought that was icing.

Anonymous said...

Finally up to Psalms in the big read. It's really quite beautiful.

And w/ that, gna.

Anonymous said...

Seriously? I must have forgotten about that! (J and Claire)

Reg radio...not sure about that either. I only listen to cons. radio, and there are plenty of times I've had to just shut it off. It can be harsh, too, for the same reasons.

Oh dear...you need some hockey lessons! ;)

And hey, if this Padre thing is too far, just say the word. I don't expect you to come down, that's a far drive...

Anonymous said...

Enjoy the Psalms...

Ya know, I'm so glad I can call you a friend. You've made me laugh, and cry, and think, and grow. I really think I'm a better person for talking w/ you. Thanks.

Kidless. Might wanna replace that 10 yr. old bottle of Old Spice you've got. That stuff doesn't keep forever, you know.

10 yr shelf life 'bout right. Will definately bring the fancy clear bottle.

Kidless sounds fine. You know, that way we can all get WASTED!

Baptist Battle Back, Brcome Spoilers

After gettn trounced in the first half of a double header (26-8), The Bad News Baptists finally pulled out a victory in the second game.

Playing the league leaders, the Baptists pulled off the upset of the yea, winning 17-11. They now stand at 1 and 8 while giving the Hitmen there second loss of the season.

Anonymous said...

FINALLY!!

I guess it had to happen eventually. The shocker is we beat a really good team. I didn't have a good nite at the plate,1 for 3 and 2 for 4, (tho I believe I'm still hittn for the highest average) but I'm starting to feel alot more comfortable at second base. Made a couple a "old school" fieldin plays tonite.

Anonymous said...

Hey hey! Good for you. Maybe that's the key...you should play a doubleheader every week. First game's just a warm up.

We've a game at 2:00 tday. "Go tiny people playing in the dirt!" That should be our name.

Nestor said...

Congrats on the win! Now that you have momentum, there's no stopping you.

Thanks yall. Ah yes, mighty "mo". Payn for it alittle today tho. Back hurts, knees scraped up, jammed left thumb; still... worth it.

Go tiny people!

Big hockey game tonight for you Wings fans out there! D's goin to the game, lucky duck. And he caught 5 Walleye this morn on the river. :)

Got the flight, hotel, and car reservations made last night. Looks like we're actually going. Not sure I need fishing reservations, but figure I'll make em anyway. Last call for Havics to have input on which day (Fri or Sat).

Anonymous said...

Tiny dirt playing people KICKED A**!!!

Yeah.. really every game is the same. Occassionaly someone'll get thrown out at first, and occassionaly the ball will make it to the outfield. You know, kinda like Reck's team.

You're a card Lin.."just like Reck's team".

I'd sat sat for fishin. We'll probably come down fri for dinner and convo.

Oh yeah..Go Wings!

Thanks! Hope you all have a great day! (Ours is chilly, windy and rainy...oh well!)

K....Survivor finale big send off. 10 points for you if one of your players wins it all.

5 points if you guess who of the 4 are gonna win. So R, if you pick Cerie to win and she does, you get 15! Are you geeked? ;)

So you need to guess who'll win and who'll get the boot tnite.

I say Natalie goes and Cerie wins
D says Natilie goes and Amanda wins.

(We'll be gone till about showtime.)

3 hours of Survivor...is there a better Mom's Day present??

Anonymous said...

Hoorat bonus points!

Ok, I say Nat out, Amanda wins it all. And, just in case they throw a wrench in the works (and in gets down to a finale 2) Cerie voted out.

S's picks to come later.

So, did ya get breakfast in bed? Attempted to make eggs benedict this mornin, apparently hollandaise sauce from a jar doesn't cut it...she did eat the Canadian bacon poached egg tho (there was some scraping involved).

Anonymous said...

S's sur picks.
Nat to get voted off (Cerie, if it's two). Amanda to win it all.

Anonymous said...

I got tea and toast in bed, yes. We were eating lunch and dinner with our respective mom's, so skipped a major breakfast. Hope the gals had a good one. Mine officially starts now. Couple drinks by the fire, survivor, D tuckin the boys in, etc. Ahhhhhh.....oops. After I finish laundry. Dang!

If two get voted out, D says Cerie and I'll saaaaaayyyy...(thinkin)..I'm gonna say Cerie would work her magic, and Parv would go. Geez, I'm tempted to say Amanda gets the boot first, as they seem threatened by her. Oh well, no sense in worrying bout it.

Thanks Reck and right back at cha Linda. I hope the ladies in the house had a wonderful day. Nes had to work today so I rented "Water Horse" and watched it with the kids. It was great QT. God gave me a wonderful mother's day present though, I went running and the woods around my house were littered with fireflies. It was like there was a bunch of glitter all over the trees and grass.
Thanks again.

Yeah, I was a little disappointed, too. But Amanda found LOOOOOVE! Hey and so did the mayor of Mt. Boobula! Oh those little baby girls of hers, she'll give birth to some day, will be blessed! Blessed w/...uh..er...well, genes that'll help her make the easy decision when it comes to plastic surgery! And that's a GOOD thing!!! Long live the mayor!!

Really, we were surprised Parv won. I really didn't get a good idea WHY, from the post interviews. I do love James, and I'm sad Cerie didn't win it all. I liked her a lot. Of course there's Penner....;)

Anonymous said...

Ahhh....Mt Boobula. She gotta a raw deal I tell ya.
I think Parv won it in the end because Amanda's pouty (sp?), doe eyed stick doesn't set well in the final vote. But who knows, they only let us see what they let us see, eh.

BTW, D doesn't bet the ponies does he? 'Cause if so...oh never mind, I don't gamble much any more.

Anonymous said...

No horse betting.

Ok, I'm starting to worry. Whenver I mention to people that we're goin to TX in July, I get the deer in the headlights look. And ocassionaly they'll throw out some weather stats...ie. 'you know they average temps in the triple digits in July'. D tries to reassure me, 'That's inland! Not by the coast!' Yeah, right.

Nestor said...

Linda,

I think it is triple digits inland and 'cooler' on the coast, except there's that whole humidity thing. But honestly it hasn't been that hot this year so far. The other day it hit about 97, but I think that was a fluke, because it was about 80 yesterday.

Anonymous said...

Well as much as I complained about the cold, heat is much harder to take for me. Chilly and rainy here tday...making a big pot of chicken noodle soup! Hey N, are you in school this term? You haven't mentioned it much lately, just wondered where you were w/ that.
