Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. (Deuteronomy 6:4-9)

Great selection from Duet.; was readind at Spurgeon's site this mornin about strength in bein a saint (in Duet no less). But I especially love the Scripture you selected. When I first came across it (awhile back) it really set my resolve to lead my family in the ways of the Lord w/ authority. He instructs us to.
OK, got a call yesterday (floorn goin in friday at Verizon) so I'm fixin to head to Austin and beat these other contractors, inspectors , ect today so I can get this place freakn textured. I'll be comin into Austin this week through thursday, and then some the follown week. But, for sure will be there today (altho too late to make lunch plans today), tues, wed and thurs...unless that changes :)
Hope we can finally meet-up this week; let me know. Dieing to discuss this "Stan and Linda" thing ;)
Maybe tomorrow. Same bat time, same bat channel? I'll have to make sure we don't have anything else going on, but that works for me.
You're getting high maintenance. ;)
Maybe we should give em somethin to talk about Stan!
Tomorrow would workout fine for me. 1:30 at Rudy's on 183? South of 620? Bought an Austin key map so if you got a cross street (if needed).
What a day. Found out that Kerrville (2 hr drive from Austin btw, I know, drove it today) store will be ready for me by friday and they want walls finished by noon monday; gonna be tough. Like the moola tho!
Probably gonna crash fairly early so if I miss conformation tonight I'll get it in the mornin.
Is 1230 good? I'll need to leave for work by 130. If you're heading south on 183 you'll want to exit Duval. It is south of Duval and north of Braker.
Well if the money's good, that's good. Does that mean you'll be working all day Friday and Saturday to get it done on time.
What a game! Thought Memphis had it locked up. anybody else watch it? I had forgotten it was on till S reminded me.
12:30 will work, see you there. I'll be the guy w/ paint on him wearing a red Astros cap (w/ yes, paint on it as well).
Mornin all.
Elle, Sur picks tonight (for extended draft)?
Nest, Rudy's at 12:30 (for killer bbq)?
Stan, Barack the lib (for supposed uniter)?
Thought For The Day
"The moment you have a self at all, there ia a possibility of putting yourself first-wanting to be God, in fact. That was the sin of Satan: and that was the sin he taught the human race. What Satan put into the heads of our remote ancestors was the idea that they could "be like gods", inventing some sort of happiness for themselves outside of God.And out of that hopeless attempt has come nearly all that we call human history-money, poverty, ambition, war, prostitution, classes, empires, slavery-the long terrible story of man trying to find something other than God which will make him happy." C.S. Lewis from Mere Christianity
Great thought Reck.
This time period is a great example of how humans try to make themselves into gods. With the true God out of the picture, there is no real consequence other than consequences from the government. You can make whatever choices you want and you never have to hear no for an answer. Just like a parent protecting their child from harm, God tells us no to protect us. The people who try to remove God from the picture can do the things they want that God says no to, but it doesn't bring happiness. It may bring a fleeting thrill, but never sustaining happiness.
I watched some of it...saw the basket that put it into overtime, then went to sleep. Yeah, I was really into it.
Said to D yesterday...'so when do the Tigers lose again?' And he says w/out skippin a beat 'Tomorrow. Against Boston'. Ha.
Draft tnite...yes please.
Hope you guys had a nice lunch!
Thanks lunch lady! Wow that was really classy. Unfortunately, Nest had allready bought his and I got distracted and paid after. So...you still owe us lunch. :) BTW, next time were goin to Ruths Chris. Got to meet the whole Nest crew, (pretty cool) tell ya all later.
Dang it! You're supposed to go to a place where they bring you the bill!!! I didn't know I had to be on the phone between the time you got there and the time you got your food! Shucks, I'm disappointed.
Funny thing is I mighta pulled it off if I didn't first call RuBy's in Austin. (I know, but I didn't get home till 12:30 and I was short on time.) Yep, had the hostess lookin for you and left my card # for when you showed up. Then I actually checked your posts w/ Nestor and realized it was RuDy's. I'm still mad.
It's the thought that counts, and that was awful nice a you. I called S after and had her post my last comment. Nest headed to work aftewards and i just got home.
It was funny, when the girl walked up to us and said you're tab is being paid for by a lady on the phone, for a second we both had a big question mark over our heads. Then we snapped.
When I got there (late of course) C walked up to me and asked. "is that a Astros cap you're wearn?" Wasn't expectn the whole family, but it was a nice surprise.
Gotta hit the shower and the bed; thanks again for the thought Lin.
Hey Nest, really enjoyed meetn yall. You're alright in my book.
It was cool. She was just going to drop me off, and then pick me up after, but our son was hungry, and by the time he was done eating she figured by the time they went anywhere they'd have to come back. The whole time I was trying to figure out who you reminded me of and I figured it out. One of the Pharmacists at BAMC who is from North Texas looks a little like you and talks a little like you. Anyway I had a good time. Maybe next time we'll find some place that's not so crowded.
By the way Linda, thanks for trying to pick up the tab. It was pretty cool of you. Sorry about El Tigres, maybe tomorrow. Wait is Beckett or Schilling pitching? Maybe they won't go to 0-10 anyway.
So, is there a Ruby's in Austin? Think I remember a Ruby Tuesdays in H-town years ago. Had forgotten just how good Rudys was. Really wanted to chow down but had a dental accident last sat (gotta partial upper that broke)and couldn't really power it down like usual. Next time...next time.
'Stros off too a bad start as well; only consolation is they're not as highly regarded as Kitties.
(you're welcome Nest) I knew Carmen was there cuz the waitress said "the painter" was with a woman. Ya wanna talk about the question mark above your head. Then she saw Nestor there, too. Yes, there's a Rubys! You outta check it out, lovely place. Nestor, he's supposed to remind you of someone I'D know so I can get a visual...thanks for nothin. ;) Anyhoo, glad you had a good time.
Reck, you're sounding busy. Draft gonna be a problem?
Draft gonna be undoable for me, live atleast. Thinkn maybe I could make a list and have S work from it (ie. first available, ect). Could just settle for the dregs (probably'd better).Manana maybe? I'll have S ck-in here today and find out your thoughts, cause I'm hittn the road. Not gonna be back till late.
It's not Ruby Tuesday's, it's Ruby's BBQ. There is a website that has all kinds of delivery for downtown Austin and when we were looking for food to order at work one night, we saw RuBy's BBQ. Got excited at first, and then realized it was not Rudy's. Some people have said its not bad, but not as good as Rudy's.
My thoughts? My thought are that you should get your a** home and draft players. You really need to re-evaluate your priorities. ;)
K, this is what I think. D and I already have ours written down in order of preference. So how bout you and S do the same and post em here, we decide on an order, and I'll draft em accordingly.
Actually hold on. I'm gonna make this one step easier. Where's a hat? Ok, I'm literally picking our names out of a hat right now for the draft order. 1st one is..D. 2nd is..(hold on, I'm shakin the hat)...S. 3rd..Reck, so I'm 4th. That good? Alrighty boys and girls, just gimme your picks and we're good to go.
Oh, I just realized I said before we'd each get 3 people. Well there's 4 of us, and 10 of them. So we'll each get 2, w/ 2 left out. Remember: I'm still keeping track the original way, just doin this for something different.
My 9 yr. old has THE most annoying call for the dog. (When she's outside and we can't find her... gotta get the underground fence workin this summer.) But darn it if it doesn't work like a charm. She just sits there and looks at me, but when he does it, she comes runnin. The neighbors must think he's a nut.
For some reason the little one has a deep-seated fear of the earth being sucked into a black hole. (I think he learned it from an older cousin.) I've had to spend some time reassuring him that this would never happen. The other night we're doin our thing, and Glenn's t.v. show is on in the background, and GB says "...and if the earth gets SUCKED into a black hole...." You should've seen B's head whip around, eyes bulging. It was pretty funny..(he wasn't too traumatized, think he's gettin over it. He used to cry at the mere thought, poor kid.)
Hey hey! Tigers win their first, and my man Guillen gets a homer!
Sucked into a black hole...It could happen, in like 5 billion years. But probably, not so much. Anyway the sun is not expected to implode, it is supposed to either get small or really large, like so large that Jupiter would be engulfed. I'm not sure which though. But don't worry. I'm pretty postitive Jesus will be back WAYYYY before that happens.
Black holes and explodn suns...good times.
S is workn on hjer list as we speak. Fixin to do mine, then list em, if I have the strength to type. Feeln 44 right now.
Ha! Well as it stands, that idea doesn't exactly ease this family's fears, either. ;)
Found out we play neither the Mets nor the Astros in reg. season play. Bummer, a rivalry woulda been fun. I'll have to keep tabs on y'alls stats wins and losses instead.
Aw, see now I feel bad. We can wait till next week if you want. I give you guys a lot of credit workin those hours. Really.
Ok
S's picks...James, Ozzy, Amanda, Parv, Cerie, Jason, Eric, Natalie, Eliza and Alexis
My picks...Ozzy, Amanda, Cerie, Parv, James, Eric, Eliza, Natalie, Alexis and Jason...wah wah wah..
Do me a flavor. Access my blog and let kingXrulz know I'm havin comput problems (like you got nothin else to do). Hard to find time to comput shop right now, prob next week. It's very frustratn, keeps shutn down. Thanks.
I was just readin his post to you. I'll let him know. Thanks for the picks!
Done deal doll.
Actually, I enjoy workin, most a the time. This is just one of those times when everything kinda stacks up on top of one another. Did get the word on 12 more Verizons to do this year. Very fortunate to be gettn these commercial jobs. I'm positive that it's His doin.
Btw, Stros off to slow start as well.

> Stan, Barack the lib (for supposed uniter)?
That's the best choice for that still out there.
Nestor, you failed to mention what you think is the greatest commandment.
Good for you...I'm just happy my friends are keepin their jobs. Times are tough. D's feelin it in his business, too.
It's late and I'm feelin 31, so I'm crashin! ;)
GN
Stan,
I posted the greatest commandment. Deuteronomy 6:5
"Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength."
When Jesus was asked this question by the Pharisees, he also added 'mind'.
Matthew 22:36-37
"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'
They would have known this because the very orthodox Jews keep this scripture, Deuteronomy 6 in the boxes that they wear on their foreheads and wrists (phylacteries). I'm not sure if you have any orthodox members of your family. But I'm sure you could find out more about it if anyone in your family goes to the synagogue. Are your parents practicing Jews, even if not orthodox?
Gn Lin. Btw, what's his biz? Can't quite remember 31.
Stan, I tried to comment on Obamas blog, they didn't publish my comment btw (so much for free speech). Now I'm gettn daily updates from his campaign, ha! On his blog it's all, Fox News did this and talk radio did that, what a joke. Btw, Nest had the sausage at Rudy's the other day in your honor.
Well, gn fellas.
Nestor, you aren't quoting the 10 Commandments.
Reck, were you "flame-baiting" by chance?
Reck, I'm having no problems accessing your blog FYI.
Stan,
You're correct that I wasn't quoting the ten commandments. However Christians and Jews (practicing Jews that is) seem to get the fact that God commanded more than just the ten commandments. The Torah, which you like to talk about, is the 5 books of Moses (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy) and is also referred to and sometimes translated as 'The Law'. So there weren't 10 laws, there were hundreds of laws and 5 books called 'The Law'. I believe that there were about 600+ direct commands in the Old Covenant. When Jesus was asked which of these 600+ commands was the greatest, the one he chose, which would have resonated with the Pharisees as well was Deuteronomy 6:5. Truly if you want to look at it, this commandment is an extension of the first of the ten commandments.
"I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me."
(Exodus 20:2-3)

> You're correct that I wasn't quoting the ten commandments. However Christians and Jews (practicing Jews that is) seem to get the fact that God commanded more than just the ten commandments. ...
Dude, here's the title of your post: ""The Greatest Commandement"". Stick to your subject.
IMHO, the greatest commandment is "though shaln't kill" (and "though shaln't bear false witness against thy neighbor" comes in as a (very) close 2nd. place.)
I am sticking to my subject, and since there are over 600 commandments and one in particular that Jesus called the greatest, I thought I'd post about that. Especially since the next few verses following the greatest commandment (deuteronomy 6:5) focus on something that has been big on my mind lately and I will probably do my next post on. However, I am considering doing a post on the looming depression as part of my what's wrong with America series.
About 'you shall not kill' and 'bear false witness'. If there is no God, why do those matter? So putting God first in you life is more important than those. I know you don't believe in God, however if there is no God, nothing else matters, its survival of the fittest. Putting God first is more important than the other commandments.
So Nestor, are you saying that the greatest commandment didn't even make the top 10 list????
Stan,
The Greatest Commandment could be called an extended version of the first commandment, a remix if you will. Truly though, it is the heart of the first commandment. Instead of just saying put God first, it says, love God with everything you have, every bit of strength you can muster. I would call that greater than the other 10.
Another great commandment would be, "Don't mess w/ Texas." Was just watchn Sponge Bob, the one where Sandy the squirrel is missin Texas. "I miss my 20 acres, my bbq and my pecan pie".
Interestn debate you guys were havin last nite. Stan, you seem to re*HASH* the same ol points regardn this subject.
Oooh, good luck at that dentist. The business is a driver leasing one. Sorta a temp agency for truck drivers. Company needs a driver, they supply em, and supply the benefits, workmans comp., etc. If you're interested, here's the website. www.driversource.net
He's opened 5 offices, and Chicago's not doin great. We were just talkin Texas the other day. Could be wrong, but it seems like there'd be a market down there.
Nestor says:
"About 'you shall not kill' and 'bear false witness'. If there is no God, why do those matter?"
I think because they're guidelines for living a moralistic life. Why live a moral life if you don't believe in God? Cuz it's the right thing to do. (Stay outta this J. ;)) It's like having laws we abide by. Keeps our society in order. So there are moral "laws", too. (Which I still think are foggy, Bible or no Bible.) You think God made these moral laws, others think people did. But just because you don't believe in God or eternal life, doesn't mean you have no accountability for yourself.
Here are our playoff picks:
D: Parvati and Erik
S: James and Jason
R: Ozzy and Cerie
L: Natalie and Amanda
Eliza and Alexis didn't get picked. I dunno, Eliza's doin pretty darn well right now. We'll see. Looks like rules can stay the same.
Well, I feel much more confident about this one. can't believe Ozzy was still there. Thouht I might have a chance when S went w/ James first (and D passn on Oz). Tho my gut tells me Amanda wins it all.
Our picks tonight for who gets the boot.
S-Alexis
R-Jason
gl, I'll catch it taped tonight. Headn back to Austin, takin the boy w/ me (he's thrilled he gets to miss school and make some dough today).
D has Alexis out, I have Erik. Kinda nice not havin tribes to pick. That was sorta confusing.
Lemme know when you want totals. Thought that was a stellar episode.
Just watched it. That was great! Don't know which was better, Dabu or the stick. Ha!
Glad your keepn the scores 'cause I'm kinda lost.
Mornin. Oh that "Dabu" thing was hilarious! I was waiting for Probst to call him out on it, but what the heck does Probst know about Micronesian?? That takes some nerve. The stick thing was funny, too. (If I was Eliza, I would have at least told Probst I didn't think it was real, but had to try, just to save face.)
Ok, totals then.
Original draft:
D- 49
S-43
L-40
R-30
Back to Austin? Have a good one!
New draft:
S-5
D-2
R-2
L-2
S has Jason who won immunity, plus the number of people we have in the game.
K, how'd that 'have a good one' end up in the middle of the post? Weird. Made me sound schizophrenic.
Which I'm not. Yes you are! No I'm not.
Bam-schisle!
KB repair, then off to Kerrville today. Got my son workin w/ me again today, really enjoy havin him come along.
Yep, that was one a the better episodes last nite. No telln what twists and turns are comin up.
Read your friends explaination (on other post) about sponges, very clever.
You..uh..have a good one as well :)
Nestor, you're attempting to rewrite the first commandment into something else, IMHO.
Reck, if ya'll got it, then maybe I wouldn't have to repeat it (for you.)
