A day that will live in infamy....

Today is the 66th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attacks. I hope that as a nation, we can remember that we have common goals as Americans regardless of party affiliation or non-affiliation. Americans have a goal that our nation be a great nation and be a force for good throughout the world. Please pray for our troops in harm's way now, and remember the hundreds of thousands that died in World War II, who have given us a chance to be a great nation, and saved us from oppression. Also pray for our leaders on both sides of the aisle, that they can stop bickering and attend to the business of the people as they were elected to do. Hopefully, partisanship can stop and our nation and its leaders can work together to build a greater nation.

The guy who took the infamous picture of the soldiers raising the flagpole in WWII was a guy named "Rosenthal", FYI. Perhaps you can add that picture to your sidebar, Nestor?

Nestor said...

I considered it, but figured I wanted to get pics of Pearl Harbor and not Iwo Jima. But just for you....

Nestor said...

Imagine that a "Rosenthal" being a non-combatant. ;) Seriously, that's pretty cool. Are you related or is it just coincidence?

Also a coincidence, is my relation (what my grandfather has told my father anyway) to 'brown tide' man himself Geraldo. Not sure if its true, and I haven't seen my grandfather in a long time to ask him.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Pure coincidence.

My day tried to enlist, but they wouldn't let him because he has a bad eye. So he helped the war effort in any way he could (he went to work for a contractor building an airstrip in the Alution(sp?) Islands. He was a grease monkey (he lubed the equipment building the strip)

Stan Rosenthal said...

He didn't get rich from it.

It's amazing how that generation gave up so much to do whatever they could to win the war. I think the whole country was behing it (the war) because everyone could feel it. Everyone had to sacrifice for the nation to win the war. When this nation is unified, there is nothing it can't do.

Nestor, I don't know why I have to sign-up everytime I post here :(

Great post BTW
After years of division this nation came together following Pearl Harbor.

Shame the unity we shared following 9/11 didn't last. Poor leadership and partisan politics surely hold some of the blame. Bush, after displayn strong leadership soon after the attack, went w/ the "shop for strength" approach. Lame. The oppertunity to pull us together under the eyes of God was missed.

We often hear/say the words "God bless America" yet we forget to get down on our knees and ask.

Nestor said...

Reck,

Do you have to sign up, or sign in? Even I have to sign in, but signing up every time would not be cool.

It is a shame that we haven't kept the unity in this nation. I am afraid that we will have to be attacked again to regain that unity.

I have to put that stupid word verification everytime, and I have to give my Google account and password the first time I post. Then then next time I post it knows me and I don't have to enter it again, until the next day and I have to enter it again for the night.

Nestor, I think you should move your blog over to WordPress, there just isn't this much grief using it. They say that everyonce in awhile they throw an adv. on their online version, but I still haven't seen one on my blog.

Nestor said...

Well I'll consider it. I don't think its that terrible. But wordpress is easier. Maybe I can do some configuring to make it easier. Have to be tomorrow. I'm going to bed early tonight for the first time in a while. GNA

RecknHavic said...

Really like the blog, but...for what ever reason have to resign-up each day. Don't really mind the word ver tho.

How's the tree decos coming? Funny how conversations flip from blog to blog. Challengn.

Nestor said...

Decorations went well. Didn't get outside though. But the tree looks great. Even lit a fire, still had the A/C on, but you gotta have a fire when you decorate the tree, right?

Here perhaps is inspiration enough for Nestor to switch to WordPress.

Alan Colmes used Blogger for his blog. And Bleck uses WordPress for his blog.

I think so. Alan's has the option to post annonymously (which would eliminate everything but the word verification), it seems to me you can set your blog to allow the same.

Nestor said...

It should be easier to post on here now. Let me know if you guys are still having issues and I'll keep trying to work it out.

RecknHavic said...

Still says incorrect password. Sign-up each day still the route for me here.

Oh well.

Fire w/ a/c, now THAT'S the xmas spirit!

That's how I roll, Reck, that's how I roll.

It shouldn't be a problem anymore for you all. You don't have to sign in, as my last three test show. I do hope you put your name though as I think you will. I am considering getting rid of any anonymous posts.

Am able to post w/out goin through the whole riga-ma-roll this time; we'll see if that's the case manana.

I know that you're a vet, are you still involved (reserves or such)?

Curious on your thoughts on my evolution post. We've been studing John for about 2 mos (and we're only on ch 4!). Understand that my theory is just a theory; not backn down from it, but it's recent stuff that I just started lookn into (Christianity vs evolutionist theory that is).

Nestor said...

Reck,

Glad it worked for you. Before I sign in, I can post anonymously if I want so hopefully it will stay that way. (But hopefully people put their name.) Is it just me or does blogging anonymously equate to cowardice?

About your post on John. I keep meaning to read it fully. I'll do that now.

About the military. I've been out for two years. I served the eight required on active duty. My original enlistment was 5 years with 3 more on inactive reserve, but I reenlisted which put me at over 8, So I didn't owe any inactive time when I got out. Not too long ago my wife and I looked at going into the reserves or National Guard, but God kept closing doors, so we figured that was not they route we were supposed to go.

> ... but God ...

Quit using your supposed "space daddy" as an excuse. If you're so for the occupation of Iraq, RE-INLIST.

Nestor said...

I'm not for the 'occupation' of Iraq. I am for the stabilization of Iraq until it is capable of defending itself from enemies, and able to maintain a free-democratic society. I would have stayed in, however, I could not go to pharmacy school and stay in the Army. I was also tired of being away from my family. Since the military was downsized in the 90's we are forced to rotate troops all the time to where you have soldiers doing 3,4, and some even 5 rotations to the same place. If the military was twice as large (the way it should be, I might consider it.) As it is currently, I have to put my family and career ahead of service to my country. BTW I have served my country FAR more than most have.

Stan Rosenthal said...

Iraq won't be stable until we stop occupying it, IMHO.

Nestor said...

Well they had a bike race not too long ago...in Fallujah. I think it's getting stable. Even the tool Murtha has said the surge is working. Goodness, even the New York Times says the surge is working! If we put enough troops on the ground and untie their hands, they can do anything.

Stan Rosenthal said...

> Murtha has said the surge is working.

You're leaving out what he said right after that (I think in the same sentence.)

NYT. Let's see, the Bushies planted lies (via Judith Reagan I think) that said there were WMD's in Iraq, and the next thing you heard was Cheney saying like 'There are WMD's in Iraq, just look at the New York Times!'.

It's just like Reck's circular argument word=God thing. If you think that the NYT is a lefty rag, you're more brainwashed than I thought. Just kidding, I knew you're that brainwashed. :-)

If we would have followed Paul Bremers advice and put more troops into Iraq to begin w/ we'd be where we are now (things improvn)years ago.

When there was looting, Bremer got them to shot those found lootn and viola, no more lootn.

Stan, read "My Year In Iraq" by paul Bremer for the truth about the initial "occupation".

Nest, thanks for your service.

Stan Rosenthal said...

I didn't know about Bremer recommending more troops, but I know General Chenseky(sp?) recommended *MANY* more, and he was fired (or forced to retire) over it. Bush refused to listen to the Generals.

Nestor said...

I don't remember GEN Shinseki doing anything major other than mandating the black beret, which pissed off the rangers (their beret was black and they were forced to change their color) The beret looked great in the dress uniform, but was not functional as all-purpose headgear. Whether or not anyone recommended more troops I don't know, but more troops was just common sense. There should have been 100,000 in Afghanistan and 250,000+ in Iraq, but what do I know, I was just an NCO. I feel like more troops in Afghanistan would mean we'd have Bin Laden by now (plus a Pakistan which TRULY supported us in the W.O.T.) 250,000 in Iraq from the beginning would mean that there would only be 40-50,000 now in Iraq and 10-15,000 in Afghanistan (IMO). Then we would be more prepared to slap President Tom and the Ayatollah upside the head if need be.

RecknHavic said...

Bremer (based on military estimates) wanted 400,000+ troops.
His feelings were that we needed enough troops to guard important areas and go after bad guys. He also wanted to really press new Iraqi leadership to make some real decisions, take real responsibility. Constantly shot down by Rumsfield.

A big "lie" of the post invasion was that we should have "stood-up" the Iraqi army. Problem was there wasn't any army left to stand-up. Not only did they disband(on their own) they cleaned out all the supplies (even the bunks in the barracks).

Bremer wanted not only money to jump start Iraqs decrepant infrastrucure; he wanted funds and man power to build an Iraqi army (fast paced). Again, Dumsfield shot that idea down.

I'm going to get my first religious post on here soon. I noticed some interesting things over the last few days as I've studied Ezra and Nehemiah. I guess this could be the 'teaser trailer'.

AS I've said before (perhaps on another blog we frequent, if not this one), you don't know (recent) history.

Another e-mail that I received:

It appears 'Ike' was right
It is a matter of history that when Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces, General Dwight Eisenhower, found the victims of the death camps he ordered all possible photographs to be taken, and for the German people from surrounding villages to be ushered through the camps and even made to bury the dead.

He did this because he said in words to this effect: "Get it all on record now - get the films - get the witnesses - because somewhere down the track of history some bastard will get up and say that this never happened"

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.
Edmund Burke

In Memorial

This week, the UK removed The Holocaust from its school curriculum because it "offended" the Muslim population which claims it never occurred.

This is a frightening portent of the fear that is gripping the world and how easily each country is giving into it.

It is now more than 60 years after the Second World War in Europe ended.

This e-mail is being sent as a memorial chain, in memory of the six million Jews, 20 million Russians, 10 million Christians and 1,900 Catholic priests who were murdered, massacred, raped, burned, starved and humiliated while the German and Russian peoples looked the other way!

Now, more than ever, with Iran , among others, claiming the Holocaust to be "a myth," it is imperative to make sure the world never forgets.
